Mabel Thwaites Rey
Mabel Thwaites Rey is professor of Sociology in the Politics department at the University of Buenos Aires and director of the Institute of Latin American and Caribbean Studies, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. For more than 30 years, her research has focused in the problematic of the She in Argentina and Latin America from a Marxist perspective, looking into contradictory dimensions of the state phenomenon in relation to popular struggles and citizens’ demands. In dialogue with the contributions of autonomist and feminist readings on patriarchy, Mabel’s research reflects on the strong connection between the public sphere and the state and explores the possibility of using and transforming this connection by means of emancipatory strategies. She is passionate about photography and textile art with paper. She is happily married and has two step children and two children of her own.
